So we aren’t guaranteed the weather, but the evenings are far brighter never mind the fact it is raining outside. When the sun is out there is nothing nicer than going outside for a walk with friends, taking the kids to the park or even on a really hot day getting a trip to the beach.
With summer comes a whole lot of foods that we love. We are over the hotpot’s and soups that kept us warm during winter, we now want something much lighter and more colourful.
Here are the foods that we love most during summer that won’t ruin our bikini body:
BBQ
The sun is shining, the kids are in the garden. This also gives the man in your life a chance to cook for a change. BBQs are a Summer MUST. A BBQ can be kept healthy with Turkey burgers, Steaks, Chicken Skewers and a side of Kale to wash it down
Salads
When it’s hot outside there is nothing nicer than a fresh green salad. Not only does this work well with a BBQ but you can have a large salad and it’s not going to pack on the pounds. Keep the salads interesting by adding fruit like pomegranate and strawberries with a fresh drizzle making them tasty.
Ice Cream
Who doesn’t love a 99 when the sun is out, just remember it will pile on the pounds! As ice cream is something that we associate with summer why not try a low calorie one. There is plenty of choice on the market with most of them coming in under 150 calories. I have to say I’m a sucker for chocolate chip and would highly recommend Breyers Mint Chocolate Chip. This is your best bet if you’re a fan of the minty sweet flavor.
Juices
There is nothing more refreshing than having a nice cold juice. Not only is this an easy way of getting your 5 a day, but it also keeps you fuller for longer. If it’s a Sunday maybe you could be a bit more venturous and add Vodka or Gin, making it a healthy cocktail. Just imagine being out in the garden with your nice cool summer cocktail.
All we need now is the weather and let the summer sun begin …
